I went thru Amboy in 1995. I thought I'd stumbled into the Twilight Zone. No people, just a few seemingly well kept buildings. It was really weird. I looked in some windows, but saw no sign of life anywhere. Only upon leaving town did I discover why I'd seen no people. There was a big sign by the road saying "Town for sale, be your own mayor." I continued on into the afternoon, not seeing another car on the road for miles.

We traveled through Amboy in 1962 to connect to Route 66 and points east. We came from San Diego through Twentynine Palms. We passed Amboy crater which was most unusual to my young self. Thanks for sharing its history.

I was an Military marine wife back in 1958 we traveled to amboy and ate in the resturant, Before catching a trucker to take us on are way. I lived in 29Palms town and also on the base. I loved it all.

Much Family History in Amboy, during the 1940s-50s relative to The Old Santa Fe House and Section House. Anyone have any history with the town and some of the Navajo Tribe members/workers on the railroad during that period ?

I broke down around that part of town. Had to climb under a barb wired fence, and there was a post office, and some lady in an RV gave me a two liter of water, so I didn't get thirsty. The water tastes gross, but that's definitely an interesting town!

As a kid my family would drive from Palm Springs to lake mead and go through Amboy, dam what memories 🇺🇸

Passed through with an ex girlfriend of mine in 2018. Prior to us leaving on our cross country road trip, we watched the Hitcher, Kalifornia and The Hills have eyes which were partially filmed in Amboy and are horror films. When we finally reached Roy's, it was 2:30 a.m and she refused to get out and explore with me. In fact she stayed in the s.u.v with the engine running and said "if anything happens I'm leaving you here!" Obviously she thought I was nuts for getting out and exploring in the middle of the night lol! I went into the first hut nearest the gas station where she had parked and there was some weird mannequin made out of tin foil. 😅. When it came time to leave I decided to drive and about a mile or so up the road was a car on the side of the road with someone standing near it. It was then that I got viscously assaulted for applying the brakes and saying "let's stop and give this guy a hand!". She didn't find it amusing at all and I continued going on down the road. She about went crazy and I was beginning to think that I would've been better rolling the dice by stopping and going back to meet the broke down motorist while she went on without me. Hahaha🤣🤣🤣
